ohhhhhh the digital age is imagined by capitalists to be the final solution to capitalism’s unfeasability in the face of resource scarcity. they think in the digital “world” exponential growth can exist unhindered by the reality of resource scarcity, but they keep running into walls because 1) scarcity and value are connected under capitalism and thus goods which are not scarce cannot be valuable and 2) although digital scarcity might be mathematically more distant than the looming threat of physical resource scarcity, digital resources ultimately rely on physical resources to exist and are thus NOT a realistic escape from the reality that capitalism relies on an exponential growth model that is physically impossible to maintain in a world with limited resources. But like the capitalists really WANT it to be the escape. Because a miraculous escape from the reality of resource scarcity on Earth is all that’s left for this generation of capitalists to aspire to. THAT’S why the superrich being so annoying about NFTs and metaverses and space travel. Too deep in the delusion that capitalist progress is inevitable and/or unstoppable. wildddd

btw a true benefit of the digital age is human connection. never in human history has some rando in USAmerica like me had such high odds of hearing details about the daily lives of people in so many places across the world. Never before have so MANY people separated by vast landmasses and oceans felt so real and human to each other. People across so many socioeconomic barriers can learn about and humanize each other as the internet becomes more accessible. The resource management so far has been a mess thanks to capitalism, and The Online is obviously far from a utopia, but incredibly diverse communities that never could have existed before can exist now and that’s so fucking cool. It can undercut the power of propoganda. I think humans are cool. I love all the cool people I’ve had the chance to meet because of the internet. I need to go to sleep
